چکیده

The non linear eddy viscosity models are good candidates for the simulation of turbulent flows of industrial interest. In fact these models allow to avoid the complexity of the second-order closure models, and to capture more physics than the classical two equation turbulence models based on the Boussinesq hypothesis. Non linear κ-ε turbulence models have been developed by the authors, in the framework of the CEC BRITEEURAM project AVTAC, and so far validated in case of a transonic flow around an airfoil and a wing mounted in a wind tunnel. The aim of this paper is to assess the behaviour of the developed non linear turbulence models in case of a typical complex 3-D aeronautical application such as the flow around a wing-body configuration.

2DV Nonlinear k-ε Turbulence Modeling of Stratified Flows

The commonly used linear k-ε turbulence model is shown to be incapable of accurate prediction of turbulent flows, where non-isotropy is dominant. Two examples of non-isotropic flows, which have a wide range of applications in marine waters, are saline water flow and the stratified flows due to temperature gradients. These relate to stratification and consequently, variation of density through...

Internal combustion engines in cylinder flow simulation improvement using nonlinear k-ε turbulence models

The purpose of this paper is to studying nonlinear k-ε turbulence models and its advantages in internal combustion engines, since the standard k-ε model is incapable of representing the anisotropy of turbulence intensities and fails to express the Reynolds stresses adequately in rotating flows. Therefore, this model is not only incapable of expressing the anisotropy of turbulence in an engine c...

Scalings of Inverse Energy Transfer and Energy Decay in 3-D Decaying Isotropic Turbulence with Non-rotating or Rotating Frame of Reference

Energy development of decaying isotropic turbulence in a 3-D periodic cube with non-rotating or rotating frames of reference is studied through direct numerical simulation using GPU accelerated lattice Boltzmann method. The initial turbulence is isotropic, generated in spectral space with prescribed energy spectrum E(κ)~κm in a range between κmin and ...

A Comparative Study of Variant Turbulence Modeling in the Physical Behaviors of Diesel Spray Combustion

In this research, the performance of nonlinear k-ε turbulence model in resolving the time delay between mean flow changes and its proportionate turbulent dissipation rate adjustment was investigated. For this purpose, the ability of Launder-Spalding linear, Suga non-linear, Yakhot RNG and Rietz modified RNG k-ε models are compared in the estimation of axial mean velocity profile and turbulent i...

Design of a Low Shear Hydrofoil through the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics and Multi-Objective Design Optimization

The analysis of impeller shape performance was carried out with the SST (Shear-Stress Transport) model coupled with the streamline curvature turbulence model. This model combines the advantages from the κ−ε and κ−ω models, ensuring proper relation between turbulent stress and turbulent kinetic energy and allowing accurate and robust prediction of the impeller blade flow separation. The Multiple...
